Based on location alone, LSU may have one of the most anticipated SEC openers in recent memory coming this fall.
The Tigers will play a rare college football contest at historic Lambeau Field, home of the NFL’s Green Bay Packers, against Wisconsin on Sept. 3.
Lambeau Field has a capacity of 80,735, and the Tigers will receive an allotment of 20,000 tickets, according to UWBadgers.com’s Andy Baggot:
According to a dispersal plan drawn up by Packers officials, Wisconsin will get 40,000 tickets, LSU 20,000 and the NFL club will control the rest, which consists mostly of premium seating (suite and club seat). Ticket prices range from $91 to $118. Student tickets will cost $48.
That’s half of the 40,000 that has been allotted to Wisconsin, but still a sizable group of tickets for what amounts to a one-way trip of more than 1,100 miles for LSU fans stationed near Baton Rouge.
Wisconsin’s campus is about a two-hour drive away from Green Bay.
Given the geography of the situation, the Tigers should feel pretty good about their contingency if they’re able to fill out that allotment.
LSU and Wisconsin are not strangers when it comes to meeting at an NFL neutral-site location.
The Tigers beat the Badgers 28-24 in the 2014 season opener at NRG Stadium in Houston, which was a much more convenient trip for LSU fans.
Wisconsin also traveled to AT&T Stadium in Arlington to play Alabama in the 2015 season opener, a game the Crimson Tide won 35-17.
