Mobile, Alabama’s own Lamical Perine once wanted to play for Auburn. You just knew the fourth-year Florida running back was going to show up ready to play against the Tigers.

AU coach Gus Malzahn told Perine he was too slow for a scholarship.

“Being from Mobile, I figured if I worked hard I’d get a chance to play in the SEC,” Perine recalled. “But Auburn — coach (Gus) Malzahn told me I was too slow to be an SEC running back. I remember those words. I won’t forget that sort of thing. In my eyes, I always knew I could play with anybody.”

Saturday, Perine proved Malzahn wrong. Perine gave UF a much-needed score to get the lead to double digits with this 88-yard touchdown.

Florida now leads Auburn 24-13 in the fourth quarter.
