Former Alabama All-American Landon Collins suffered a sprained MCL in his first preseason game with the New York Giants, head coach Tom Coughlin revealed Saturday.

The second-round pick was rolled up after attempting a tackle. After Friday’s game, Collins told reporters his knee felt fine, but MRI results revealed otherwise.

“I really don’t know how long (Collins will be out),” Coughlin said. “A lot of that is up to the individual.”

The Giants are hoping Collins returns to practice quickly so that he gets as many reps as possible before the September opener.

“He definitely needs it,” Coughlin said, according to NJ.com. “He needed last night. In order to be able to be in position, I think, to where he’s seeing a great deal of what takes place in the National Football League. He didn’t get much last night.”
