Lane Kiffin is off to a hot start in Boca Raton.
Florida Atlantic knocked off Marshall 30-25 Friday night for the Owls sixth win of the season. FAU is now 6-3 with a perfect 5-0 record in Conference USA. They lead the C-USA East division and are the only C-USA team with an undefeated conference record.
Kiffin took over for the Owls after serving as offensive coordinator for Nick Saban and Alabama from 2014-2016. He does have previous collegiate head coaching experience at Tennessee and USC, but the Owls performance may be Kiffin’s best accomplishment yet.
FAU finished 3-9 every season from 2014-2016 and had not won six games in a season since 2013. It is a remarkable accomplishment for Kiffin. The Owls are also now bowl eligible for the first time since 2008.
Here is a look at the C-USA standings from the CBS Sports Network on Twitter:

It also looks like Kiffin is still pushing all the right buttons on the offensive side of the ball. The Owls used back-to-back trick plays to take the lead in the third quarter.

ESPN’s Chris Low also hinted at the possibility of Kiffin’s name being mentioned for Coach of the Year awards:
Don’t forget about @Lane_Kiffin in Coach of the Year conversations. @FAU_Football unbeaten in C-USA play. He’s revived the program in Year 1
