Ed Orgeron is returning to LSU and will serve as an assistant coach under Lane Kiffin.

The former Tiger and head coach of the iconic 2019 national championship squad has a history with Kiffin and worked with him at Tennessee and USC. He and Kiffin can also both say they served as head coach for LSU and Ole Miss; Orgeron was Ole Miss’s head coach from 2005-2007 and led the Tigers from 2016-2021. However, Orgeron has been out of coaching since he and LSU mutually agreed to part ways at the end of the 2021 season.

Orgeron is Louisiana through and through. He was born in Larose (located about 20 miles southwest of New Orleans) and played for LSU and Northwestern State. His Louisiana roots and proven track record as a coach will provide a major boon for both recruiting and on-field results at LSU under Kiffin.

On Tuesday, Kiffin was asked about the decision to bring Orgeron back to Baton Rouge at the SEC Spring Meetings.

“It just seemed like the perfect time to bring him back,” Kiffin said of Orgeron’s return. “We talked for a number of days about it. We had to figure out exactly what it was. I feel awesome about it.”
