Lane Kiffin recently hired his brother, Chris Kiffin, to join his Ole Miss staff for the 2024 season as an analyst.

The Kiffin brothers previously worked together when Lane was the head coach of Florida Atlantic and Chris was his defensive coordinator. After 2017, Chris left for the NFL, where he had been until taking the Ole Miss gig. Chris Kiffin was most recently the linebackers coach for the Houston Texans in 2023.

When asked about hiring his brother at his Week 1 press conference on Monday, Lane acknowledged their late father, Monte Kiffin, who passed away in July.

“It’s really awesome to have him around,” Kiffin said. “Without being too personal, I know my dad is excited about it. And this is, as he reminded me, our 4th time working together. It’s awesome, especially because his 4 kids will be here and they’re actually on the same street as me. They moved in 2 nights ago. So that’s really cool. It’s really awesome.”

While it’s a heartwarming reunion, Kiffin also stressed the football impact of the move.

“And from a coaching standpoint, it gives us somebody with a lot of experience, a good ability to game plan and knowledge,” Kiffin said.

This will be the third stint in Oxford for Chris Kiffin, but the first time under his brother’s leadership. Chris was a graduate assistant with the Rebels back in 2007 and then returned to coach the defensive line from 2012-16. Chris spent the 2017 season with his brother at Florida Atlantic and improved the team’s total defense to 63rd in the country after having the 124th-ranked defense a year earlier.

The Rebels will kick off the 2024 season against Furman on Saturday, August 31.
