Lane Kiffin took the main stage at SEC Media Days in Nashville on Thursday morning.
Amongst the topics discussed: the arrival of new defensive coordinator Pete Golding, who previously served in that role for Alabama.
Kiffin said he’s been familiar with Golding for a long time and that he’s “really excited” about the hire.
“We’re really excited about that change and what he brings and to bring him over from Alabama,” Kiffin said. “I’ve known Pete and people that know Pete for a long time.”

Golding has been considered a rising star in the coaching profession for several years. Prior to his work at Alabama, Golding was the defensive coordinator at UTSA in 2016-17. Golding helped lead UTSA to its first bowl game in 2016.
Last season at Alabama, Golding’s defense finished 4th in the nation in yards-per-play allowed. Ole Miss ranked No. 48 nationally in that category.
Alabama coach Nick Saban also addressed Golding’s move at SEC Media Days this week.
Ole Miss opens the 2023 season against Mercer on Sept. 2.
