Lane Kiffin has a way about him.

The Ole Miss head coach can be off beat, controversial, sarcastic and a lot of other things. But he’s also funny. And during Saturday night’s SEC showdown against Arkansas, the guy who’s desperately trying to turn solid success into College Football Playoff success found a few seconds of levity amid the stress of a conference battle.

Somehow, and who knows how, a basketball of all things found its way onto the field in Oxford as the 17th-ranked Rebels were trying to put away the Razorbacks. Ole Miss led 37-28 with 4:56 left in the third quarter, so it’s not like the Rebels had the game in hand and Kiffin could afford himself a few seconds of humor.

The game was still very much in doubt, but perhaps there was some revelry going on at that moment because Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss had tossed a touchdown pass to make it 37-28, and the extra point that would make it 38-28 was upcoming. The Rebels had finally earned some breathing room in what had been a tight game all night, and maybe the basketball was a show of force by whoever was responsible for it getting onto the field.

Here is the hilarious post of Lane Kiffin dabbling in a little roundball amid the football night in Oxford:

There would be more smiles for Kiffin and company after that moment, with Ole Miss adding to its lead in the fourth quarter and finishing off a 41-35 victory to improve to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the SEC.
