Lane Kiffin has been coaching a deep quarterback room this spring and summer, with 3 guys competing for the starting job — incumbent Jaxson Dart, Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders and Walker Howard.
As the Ole Miss Rebels prepare for their Week 1 game against Mercer, it seems the starting quarterback battle has been decided.
Per ESPN’s Chris Low, Dart has gotten the nod to start against the Bears on Saturday afternoon:
Sources tell ESPN that Jaxson Dart is slated to get the start at QB for @OleMissFB today against Mercer. Dart transferred from USC and started 12 of 13 games last season for the Rebels. Dart and Oklahoma State transfer Spencer Sanders battled for the job this preseason.

Dart threw for 2,974 yards, 20 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last year while completing 62.4% of his passes. He also added 614 yards and 1 score as a runner.
Ole Miss enters the 2023 season as the No. 22 team in the country. The Rebels have one of the best running backs in the nation in sophomore Quinshon Judkins. Starting Week 1 against an FCS foe, Kiffin will look for his team to fire on all cylinders as more difficult opponents loom large.
The Rebels host Mercer at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday. The game can be seen on ESPN+ and SEC Network+.
