One thing about Lane Kiffin is he’s going to get these jokes off by any means. Especially if it’s 1 of his long-time friends. So it’s not shock that the Ole Miss head coach got a dig in at Kirby Smart prior to the huge showdown on Saturday at Georgia.
During his Monday press conference, Kiffin made a quip about Smart’s weight when asked who burns more calories during games.
“I actually walked past the TV earlier and saw his presser, don’t think he’s burned too many calories,” Kiffin said.
Kiffin and Smart previously worked as assistants at Alabama under Nick Saban. They were even in an epic group chat with fellow former Saban assistants. Now both are leading men in the SEC with thriving programs. Smart has guided Georgia to 2 national championships. Kiffin has resurrected Ole Miss with 3 double-digit victory seasons and is currently undefeated this season.
The series is tied at 1 between Kiffin and Smart, so Saturday will be a rubber match. Georgia routed Ole Miss 52-17 on Nov. 11, 2023 in Athens. Ole Miss returned the favor with a 28-10 victory last season in Oxford.
No. 5 Ole Miss at No. 9 Georgia is slated for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff and will be televised on ABC.
