Lane Kiffin shares what needs to change about inconsistent run game before LSU
Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have a big challenge ahead of them this weekend after picking up their first loss of the season to Alabama last week.
The Rebels will take on LSU, which is coming off a narrow win against Arkansas last week. After the loss to Alabama, Kiffin is looking to get the season back on track and get things going against the Tigers.
“Extremely talented, phenomenal looking team,” Kiffin said in his press conference Monday. “Great o-line, great receivers, great quarterback, ran great, great defensive players all over.”
Kiffin’s current situation reminds him of the one he was in 2 seasons ago after losing to Alabama. He’s hoping to have a season like that one again this year.
“Our challenge is to get better this week,” Kiffin said. “I did tell them, ‘hey, we happened to be in this situation 2 years ago.’ Went 3-0, went into Alabama and actually played a lot worse and ended up coming back from that game and going 10-2. We’ve got a lot of football in front of us and a huge one this week.”
Getting better starts with the run game. The Rebels had just 56 yards on the ground on Saturday and will need to get the ball moving this weekend.
“We’ve got to get better,” Kiffin said. “We’ve got to coach better, involved different schemes, different things. Sometimes the running game is interesting. You’ll have these games and then all of the sudden you’ll pop and you have a bunch of explosive runs.”
Ole Miss will also have the difficult task of containing quarterback Jayden Daniels, who had an outstanding game against Arkansas last week.
“He completes a lot of passes and is hard to bring down,” Kiffin said. “I don’t know that we’re in better position or not. We need a really good game plan and need to play really well.”
Ole Miss and LSU will kickoff at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
