Lane Kiffin understands what Quinshon Judkins did last year as Ole Miss’ feature back and arguably the best back in the SEC.
Judkins led the SEC in carries, yards and touchdowns as a running back with 274 carries, 1,565 yards and 16 touchdowns. That was 4th all-time among SEC freshmen, and he surpassed Kayo Dottley’s 1949 single-season rushing record for the Rebels.
“Like any freshman, you can get a lot better in Year 2,” Kiffin said at SEC Media Days on Thursday, and added that Ole Miss having Kevin Smith coaching running backs would help Judkins. “To have him as someone that also was a great college player, that’s gone through all the hype that comes with it. Because his biggest challenge is his footwork and his pass protection. Even though he’s really mature and a great kid.”
Kiffin added in that comment about Judkins that the previous motivation for players was to get to the NFL to get paid, but now they already have money, and their egos can be affected by NIL opportunities.
