Lane Kiffin has locked in on Jaxson Dart as Ole Miss’ starting quarterback in the aftermath of the 73-7 rout vs. Mercer in Week 1.

The Rebels’ head coach confirmed in a press conference that he’s going with the 6-foot-2, 22o-pound junior for the time being.

Dart completed 18 of his 23 passes for 334 yards, 4 touchdowns, and no interceptions while also rushing for 36 yards on 4 carries. All 4 of Dart’s touchdown passes went to wide receiver Tre Harris, who finished with 6 receptions for 133 yards.

“Jaxson played really well,” Kiffin said. “Like I’ve said, had a really good camp in the spring. So, he’s the starting quarterback.”

As the game became lopsided, Kiffin turned to backups Spencer Sanders (8-for-14 passing, 2 touchdowns, no interceptions) and Walker Howard (3-for-4 for 56 yards).

Kiffin believes No. 22 Ole Miss is blessed to have multiple capable options at quarterback.

“We’re extremely excited about that depth in the room. Walker came in, played really well. Made some really good throws in the game too,” Kiffin said. “In the team, each position group is a team within itself. Our goal each year is to improve that in the offseason. That position has been dramatically improved.”

Dart and Ole Miss will aim for a 2-0 mark when they travel to No. 24 Tulane on Sept. 9 (3:30 p.m. EST/ESPN2).
