It seemed to be a point Lane Kiffin wanted to make in his postgame press conference.

Following a 24-21 win over Washington State, Kiffin said No. 4 Ole Miss played more like the No. 84 team. The stands looked indicative of an 84th-ranked team as well. Several users on social media commented on the poor showing by the Ole Miss student section, and Kiffin brought that up unprompted in his presser.

The question was about slow starts for early kickoffs.

“I thought our red zone offense showed up about like our student section,” Kiffin said. “Very similar. That’s on us. I told (the team) all week the crowd probably won’t be what it’s been. You’re going to have to create your own energy. We did that a little bit.”

The Rebels went 2-for-3 in the red zone on Saturday. They scored a pair of touchdowns, but they also turned the ball over once.

They had 115 yards of offense in the first quarter, but the defense was slow to find its footing, giving up nearly 7 yards per play and an early touchdown. Ole Miss turned it over on downs and missed a field goal on its first to possessions.

A little more juice would have certainly been nice, but Kiffin also made the point in his postgame that no one lived up to the standard, with the exception of tailback Kewan Lacy.
