The South Carolina Gamecocks will be looking to make a statement in 2025 by making their first-ever College Football Playoff appearance, and they’ll be looking to their star quarterback, LaNorris Sellers, to get them there.
The electric redshirt sophomore burst onto the scene in 2024 with his elite blend of athleticism and arm talent, a combination that has made him one of the most feared gunslingers in the country for 2025.
Sellers’ prowess as a true dual-threat under center has also begun to draw some comparisons to former legendary SEC QBs, with the most prominent being Auburn legend and Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton.
The latest person to draw parallels between Sellers and the legendary former Tiger is SEC Network analyst Jordan Rodgers, who joined Get Up on Wednesday morning to talk about what traits he sees in Sellers that remind him of Newton.
“I saw flashes of Cam Newton,” Rodgers said. “The big, physical, strong runner that can run through you and run by you, I thought, was so impressive. He can change a game with his feet.”
Rodgers is certainly setting a very high bar for Sellers by comparing the Gamecocks’ star to a player of Newton’s caliber, but it’s hard not to see the obvious similarities in their respective games.
If Sellers can manage to have even half the impact on Carolina that Newton did during his 1 year at Auburn, 2025 could end up being a very special season for the Gamecocks.
