John Schlarman, the Kentucky offensive line coach who passed away earlier this fall after a battle with bile duct cancer, was honored by the Frank & Barbara Broyles Foundation. Schlarman will receive the foundation’s Broyles Lifetime Achievement Award.

The news was announced by the university on Tuesday.

Schlarman joined the initial staff of head coach Mark Stoops when the latter was hired in 2013. He joined his alma mater from Troy, where he served as offensive line coach from 2007-2012. In 2010, he was named the Trojans’ running game coordinator.

As a member of the Wildcats offensive line in the mid-1990s, he earned All-SEC 1st team honors in his final season in 1997. He then was a high school assistant before his return to Lexington as a graduate assistant for 3 seasons. He returned to the high school sidelines, this time as a head coach, from 2003-2006 before being hired at Troy.

Schlarman died on Nov. 12 after a more than two-year battle with cancer. He was survived by his wife and 4 children.
