Beloved former South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore informed the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday that he is retiring from football, ending a short two-year career in the NFL due to chronic knee soreness stemming from an injury suffered in 2012.

Lattimore released a statement via Twitter: “After prayer and careful consideration, I have decided it’s time to end my professional football career.”

The rest can be seen below:

Steve Spurrier said Wednesday that he had spoken with Lattimore this week and informed him that he’ll always be welcome back in Columbia, whether it’s on staff, in the football office or in the athletic department.
