Lee Corso is as beloved of analyst as there is in the college football. He retired from ESPN’s College GameDay earlier this season and has received many tributes this year for his contributions to the game.
On Saturday night, he was once again honored, as he was honored with a replica jersey during the rivalry game between Miami and Florida State. Corso is a Florida State alum who wore No. 20 during his playing days with the Noles.
The broadcasters on the call were Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit, who have been with Corso for so much of his ESPN career.
“It’s good see him back and the Seminole fans showing their love,” Herbstreit said. “What a great player. People forget, he led the Noles in career interceptions until Deion Sanders [broke the record].”
Corso played both college football and baseball at Florida State, where he set the school record for 14 interceptions that lasted nearly 20 years. After he finished his playing days, Corso started his coaching career at Maryland in 1962 for his former college coach, Tommy Nugent.
He spent time at Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois and finished with a record of 73-85-6. In 1987 is when Corso began his legendary career at ESPN, where he worked on College GameDay with Fowler, Herbstreit and many others.
