Lee Corso is a treasure for college football fans who get up on Saturday morning to watch College GameDay. This Saturday, it’s an extra-special GameDay for Corso.

“Coach” isn’t just a nickname for Corso, 89. He coached from 1958 to 1985 as an assistant and head coach in college and the USFL. From 1973-82, Corso was Indiana’s head coach. As expected, he’s having quite a time back in Bloomington.

In IU’s first game of the Corso era, the Hoosiers rode a double-decker bus to the stadium. Saturday morning, Corso was back on a double-decker bus to make his GameDay entrance. Host Rece Davis told the story with infectious enthusiasm.

GameDay also shared a couple of clips with some old footage of Corso coaching the Hoosiers.

GameDay is in Indiana for the second time ever, the program’s first Saturday show. ESPN’s traveling pregame show is spotlighting one of the biggest surprises in college football. IU ended Tom Allen’s tenure going 3-9. Under new head coach Curt Cignetti, the Hoosiers are 7-0 and ranked No. 13 in the AP Top 25. Indiana and Washington play at noon ET, with the game airing on the Big Ten Network.
