The stars will be out at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens for Monday night’s College Football Playoff National Championship showdown between No. 1 seed Indiana and No. 10 seed Miami. Former Hoosiers coach Lee Corso, however, is not expected to be in attendance.
Corso, 90, was Indiana’s head coach from 1973-82, leading the Hoosiers to their first bowl win, a Holiday Bowl victory, and a top-25 finish in 1979. He remained a staunch supporter of his former program, memorably getting a warm welcome when College GameDay returned to Bloomington in 2024.
Though Corso lives in Florida, he won’t be making the trip down to Hard Rock Stadium. ESPN’s Jen Lada reported on Jan. 10 that Corso was planning to watch the game from home. Steve Corso, Lee’s son, recently confirmed those plans.

Talked to Coach Corso this morning & he is obviously THRILLED about the Hoosiers’ trip to the National Championship Game. Will watch from his Florida home. He loves Fernando Mendoza. Corso’s GameDay colleagues are in Miami Gardens to preview the big game. Many college football fans will be disappointed that Corso, who retired from the show in August, won’t be joining them.
