Leon O’Neal talks pick-6 and the ‘big trunk’ that helped him find the end zone

Texas A&M’s Leon O’Neal made the play of the game Saturday night in the Aggies 41-10 season-opening win against Kent State.
With his team leading just 13-3 midway through the third quarter and the Golden Flashes driving and looking to cut into the deficit, the senior safety picked off Golden Flashes quarterback Dustin Crum and returned the interception 85 yards for a touchdown that completely changed the momentum of the game.

Following the game, O’Neal said that after the interception finding the end zone was made easy when he spotted on of his teammates leading the way.
“I call (No. 8) Madea,” said O’Neal with a huge smile when talking about 6-4, 290-pound teammate DeMarvin Leal. “8’s got a big trunk, so I followed that big trunk the whole way.”

O’Neal then acknowledged more seriously that it was a huge play for him and the defense, one that is the kind of thing defensive payers dream about.
“I was excited,” O’Neal said. “We always joke about pick-6s and touchdowns and stuff so for it to come to fruition was a big milestone for us as a DB group and a defense.”
