Leonard Fournette addresses lack of use in Jaguars’ OT loss to Jets

The Jacksonville Jaguars used the No. 4 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft on former LSU star RB Leonard Fournette and, so far, that move has paid off.
However, Fournette wasn’t used as much as he probably would have liked late in the Jags’ 23-20 overtime loss to the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon.
Though he had 24 carries for 86 yards and added four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown, he was not a part of the team’s late-game plan.
Still, after the game, Fournette wouldn’t blame his coaches for the loss, saying that he will do whatever the staff asks of him (via Jacksonville.com):
“I don’t really get into that,” Fournette said. “That’s the coaches’ decisions. I have to live with the decisions they make. It’s not my team. It’s all 11 of us and we have to come together and make the plays.”
Coach Doug Marrone had a succinct explanation for not using his star running back more:
”Just want to keep him fresh,” Marrone said.
Fresh for what, exactly? That’s unclear, as the Jags could have improved to 3-1 with a win. Now at 2-2, the path to the playoffs becomes that much tougher.
Perhaps Fournette will get the ball more in key situations moving forward.
