LSU running back Leonard Fournette is dealing with a lingering ankle injury that could eventually require surgery this offseason, reports Will Carroll of SEC Country.
Though it’s not expected to impact his short-term status — Fournette is still set to play in Saturday’s home contest against Florida — a source tells Carroll that the injury could be a “chronic problem.”
Fournette has been battling the same ankle issue for most of the season and tweaked it once again last week vs. Arkansas. He has 803 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 117 carries (6.86 ypc) in 2016 and is widely projected (if healthy) to be a top-five selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.
LSU will host Florida tomorrow at 1 p.m. ET in Death Valley.
