Les Miles reportedly pushing for change to CFB recruiting limit

Under the current rules, schools can sign 25 players on a football scholarship in each recruiting class. Schools often go over 25 commits in a recruiting class, but find ways to make the numbers work out (back-counting early enrollees, grayshirting, blueshirting, etc) when it comes to getting the signee on the team. Les Miles wants to make it officially easier to go over 25 in a class.
According to college football insider Bruce Feldman, Miles is pushing for more flexibility, asking for 50 signees over a two-year period to be allowed instead of a strict 25 signees per year. Unsurprisingly, he’s making this push less than two months since taking the Kansas job where he appears to have found out that the Jayhawks roster is a mess.
Miles is one of the many coaches attending the American Football Coaches Association convention in San Antonio. Wednesday is the final day of the four-day gathering.
In case you were wondering, these teams are currently at 25 or more commits in the 2019 class:
- Texas A&M (25)
- Arkansas (27)
- Alabama (28)
- Ole Miss (28)
Coaches inside the AFCA meeting now.. Am told new #KU coach Les Miles is pushing for a change from the 25-man scholarship per signing class to a 50 limit over a two-year cycle. (Blue-shirting & the remnants of the Weis era has left re-stocking that roster full of challenges)
