Lincoln Riley made a surprise post-spring move for his USC football team. Strength coach Bennie Wylie is out.
We are grateful for the many contributions Coach Wylie has made to our program throughout the last three seasons. He has been an outstanding role model to our young men,” Riley said in a released statement. “This is a difficult decision, but we are committed to positioning our football program to compete for national championships as we continue to move forward into the 2025 season and beyond.
Wylie followed Riley from Oklahoma, joining the USC staff in December 2021. He was OU’s director of sports performance for football from 2018-21. Wylie also has previous stops at Texas (2011-13), Tennessee (2010) and Texas Tech (2003-09).
Riley is entering Year 4 of his USC tenure. The Trojans went 7-6 in 2024, bringing Riley’s record to 26-14 over 3 seasons. He was 55-10 in 5 seasons leading the Sooners (2017-21).
