Lions reportedly had wild first ask in return for Matthew Stafford

It was about a week ago that Matthew Stafford was traded from Detroit to the Los Angeles Rams for a package of Jared Godd, two future first-round picks and a third-round pick. On Sunday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter shared that the Lions approached LA with an even bigger first ask.

“When trade talks began between the Rams and Lions, the first player Detroit requested in a trade for QB Matthew Stafford was DT Aaron Donald, per sources,” Schefter tweeted. “Rams told Lions, that’s not happening, before the two sides later figured out the eventual compensation package.”

The NFL Twitter community had quite the response to Schefter’s report. It has been retweeted nearly 3,000 times, including over 2,000 quote tweets. Stafford has had a fine pro career, but NFL Twitter was amused – to say the least – that the Lions thought they might be able to land one of the league’s premiere players for a quarterback they no longer wanted.
