LISTEN: Steve Spurrier explains why he decided to coach an Alliance of American Football team

One of the surprising moves to come out of this offseason so far was Steve Spurrier’s decision to come out of retirement to coach the Orlando squad in the new Alliance of American Football.
The league won’t play too many games, though, so the Head Ball Coach will still have a chance to enjoy his retirement.
In fact, Spurrier joined ESPNU Radio on SiriusXM on Wednesday and said that the fact that he still has time to pursue other interests was one of the main reasons he agreed to coach the team:

“Coaching is in all our blood systems, our DNA,” he said. “We thoroughly enjoy it. We enjoy the format for this league. This is a four- to five-month deal — it’s not year-round. So we can still do other things in our lives that we do when our coaching days are over and yet, we get to keep doing the coaching.”
The first year of the AAF will be interesting, as it needs to draw viewers if it wants to stay afloat. Spurrier is a big name attached to the project, though, so his Orlando squad should at least be a lot of fun.
