It took Saint John’s less than two minutes to get on the board against St. Scholastica on Saturday.
And after that, Saint John’s just kept scoring. And scoring. And scoring.
When it was all said and done, the Johnnies had rolled to 98 points — and pitched a shutout in the process.
At the half, Saint John’s led 63-0, a school record, which surpassed a 62-0 advantage it held over Hamline on Oct. 9, 1993. (Saint John’s went on to win that game 69-0.)
The 98 points also marked the most in a single game in school history, bettering another 1993 mark, when it scored 77 against Bethel.
Perhaps the most shocking aspect of the one-sided shellacking? St. Scholastica went 7-3 last season and was picked to win its conference this season.
Saint John’s now turns its attention to next week’s game against Presentation, a school located in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
The Saints, on the other hand, will lick their wounds and look to score their first point of the season next week, as they travel to Greenville, Illinois, to take on the Greenville Panthers.
That one might be a war of attrition — the Panthers were beaten 76-3 by Millikan University on Thursday.
