Florida coach Jim McElwain went to great lengths to get WR James Robinson in orange and blue.
On an official visit to Ohio State in January, Robinson was cited for marijuana possession. The incident resulted in University of Florida admissions originally pulling the scholarship offer for the highly sought after wideout. During a dead period before National Signing Day, McElwain went to bat for Robinson, calling various colleges and junior colleges to try to find Robinson a landing spot while simultaneously working behind the scenes to get the green light from UF administration to accept his Letter of Intent.
As it worked out, Robinson was a (literal) last-minute addition to Florida’s 2018 class, announced moments before McElwain held his press conference.
Robinson is determined to show that McElwain’s efforts won’t go to waste.
“He went out his way for me, now it’s my turn to go out my way for him,” Robinson wrote on Twitter Thursday.

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Robinson is considered raw in his development, but that’s unlikely to keep him off the field this fall.
