Former Ole Miss coach Tommy Tuberville didn’t exactly have the most ceremonious exit from Oxford back in 1998.

Not even a week before leaving to take the Auburn job, Tuberville said “They’ll have to carry me out of here in a pine box,” affirming his life commitment to Ole Miss.

Now, in an awkward turn of events, Tuberville will be back in Oxford this weekend to call the Ole Miss-Texas A&M game.

It’s safe to say the Rebels won’t be giving him a warm welcome, based on this tweet from the Rebels’ official Twitter account on Monday:

For those who didn’t know the history behind the “pine box” quote (which refers to a coffin), it could be construed as a threat.

However, that’s not the case. It’s just a not-so-subtle shot at a coach the Rebels still haven’t fully forgiven for skipping town all those years ago.
