Fans normally don’t break out the “We Want Bama” chants and signs unless their teams are in the midst of a huge victory that looks like it could launch a championship run. So when a fan of two-win South Alabama brought such a sign to Tuesday night’s game against Troy, it was a little unusual.
But he had perhaps the most honest reason to want to face the Crimson Tide, as you can see in the photo below that was shared by Reddit’s official college football Twitter account:
It’s common practice among Power 5 schools to offer big paydays for home games against FCS squads and lower-tier FBS teams, and the Sun Belt isn’t exactly the nation’s wealthiest conference.
South Alabama lost 38-17 at home to Troy, so it’s not like the Jaguars pose a threat to No. 1 Alabama. If anything, a game between them could be the start of a fun in-state series and a boon for apparently cash-strapped South Alabama.
After all, does anyone really want Bama?
