LOOK: Tennessee columnist argues Vols’ 0-8 SEC record ‘wasn’t that bad’

Knoxville News Sentinel columnist John Adams has been around for a long time in Knoxville, writing a lot of columns about Tennessee football.

However, a column he wrote recently may prove to be his spiciest take yet, and that’s saying something.

As you can see in the photo below, the headline for Adams’ column is “As 0-8 teams go, UT wasn’t that bad,” which references the Vols’ 0-8 SEC mark in 2017:

The column goes on to rank all 18 teams that have gone 0-8 in SEC history, and it appears Adams has settled on the 1999 South Carolina Gamecocks as the worst 0-8 team of the bunch.

It’s worth noting that sometimes, in the newspaper business, the columnist isn’t the one coming up with the headlines, but whoever came up with this one opened the door for ridicule, as it’s pretty tough to spin an 0-8 record positively.

According to our staff’s resident Tennessee expert: “I watched, they were that bad.”
