LOOK: Tennessee student section makes strong statement with sparse turnout

Twice earlier this season, Tennessee fans have left early after disappointing efforts against UMass and Georgia. On Saturday, the student section didn’t even get that far.
At kickoff of the noon start against South Carolina, the Tennessee student section was sparse at best. The rest of the stadium also had a spotty turnout. To be fair, early kickoffs routinely have late-arriving crowds. But this appeared to be more of an indictment of embattled Tennessee coach Butch Jones and the direction of the Vols’ program. Some Vols fans have already said that expectations that a late-arriving crowd is “not too bad” is part of the problem with the program.
Many believe this is a must-win game for Jones, who has dropped two games to start SEC play, and is 3-2 overall.
