LOOK: Tennessee’s Rock has fresh coat of paint ahead of Georgia Tech

Tennessee’s iconic painted Rock, which last year celebrated 50 years, is out with a fresh coat of paint to mark the Vols season opener Monday night against Georgia Tech.
As the Knoxville News-Sentinel reported last year, “the Rock has offered students a place to send up tributes to friends, protest political issues, advertise events, celebrate big football wins, revile coaches who left them jilted, mourn national tragedies and grieve the loss of local heroes.”
One of those paintings welcomed former coach Lane Kiffin back to Knoxville last year when he was Alabama’s offensive coordinator.
If Vol fans have a say in Monday night’s game, it will go the way of the painting below, which shows Smokey the mascot barking at Buzz, the mascot for Georgia Tech.
