This brings a new meaning to “row the boat,” the Western Michigan football battle cry.

Akron and Western Michigan were set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday but heavy rains caused an extended delay as Western Michigan’s field was flooded. The game was later postponed to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Earlier, the Broncos canceled some homecoming festivities, according to MLive.com. The WMU Marching Band also canceled its pre-game performance because of the rain.

The National Weather Service issued a flood watch until 4 a.m. on Sunday. Rainfall totals were expected to be two to three inches, and narrow bands of three to five inches were also in the forecast.

Western Michigan is 4-2 and 2-0 in the Mid-American Conference. Akron is 3-3 and 2-0.
