Would losing to Will Muschamp doom Dan Mullen? Florida columnist shares his thoughts on ‘Finebaum’

One of the most talked-about games on Florida’s schedule this year is when the Gators travel to Starkville, Miss. on Sept. 29 to face Mississippi State, where Dan Mullen coached for the previous nine seasons.
But what about the other match-up on UF’s schedule featuring a coach facing his former team?
One of Mullen’s predecessors, Will Muschamp, will be back in The Swamp on Nov. 10. Muschamp has faced Florida twice as a head coach at USC, splitting the two meetings. The home team has won the contest both times.
On Friday’s “The Paul Finebaum Show,” longtime Gainesville Sun columnist Pat Dooley was one of Paul Finebaum’s guests. Finebaum pointed out the hype surrounding Mullen’s return to MSU, but also wanted to talk about another game with Dooley. Finebaum wondered if the Gator Nation could handle the possibility of Mullen’s squad losing to Muschamp in The Swamp.
“I don’t think it matters,” Dooley told Finebaum. “I think people are over that. I think most people really like Will and I think there’s at least a group of people who thought, ‘Man, if this was another place, they could have given Will a couple more years and he might have been able to get this thing going.'”
While Georgia is considered the favorite in the SEC East, Muschamp’s Gamecocks are being talked about as a potential challenger in the division. Mullen and the Gators will certainly have their hands full come November.
