UPDATE: UConn has officially introduced Lou Spanos as defensive coordinator.

Nick Saban’s army of assistant coaches is taking another hit as one of Alabama’s defensive analysts has reportedly accepted a job at UConn.

The latest defection from the Alabama coaching staff will be analyst Lou Spanos as UConn is planning to name him as the program’s new defensive coordinator, according to Mike Anthony of The Hartford Courant. Spanos only spent one season in Tuscaloosa after spending the majority of his coaching career as an assistant in the NFL. He did serve as UCLA’s defensive coordinator in 2012 and 2013.

Spanos has two Super Bowl rings, which he won working as an assistant coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Spanos is the latest assistant to leave Tuscaloosa this offseason as Saban is currently looking for an offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach, offensive line coach, receivers coach and there’s speculation that a change may be coming at defensive coordinator this offseason in Tuscaloosa.
