Illinois shocked the college football world over the weekend with its sudden firing of head coach Bill Cubit and subsequent hiring of long-time NFL head coach Lovie Smith to replace him.
Many are wondering how Smith’s coaching style will translate to the college game.
According to a report that surfaced on Tuesday, he may call on the help of another former NFL head coach with some college coaching experience.
FOX Sports’ Alex Marvez Tweeted that former Texas A&M and Green Bay Packers head coach Mike Sherman is Smith’s target to be his new offensive coordinator at Illinois.

Sherman was 25-25 during four seasons with the Aggies from 2008-11 before being replaced by Kevin Sumlin. He went 57-39 with the Green Bay Packers from 2000-05.
Sherman followed his work with the Aggies with a two-year stint as the offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins in 2012-13. He now coaches high school football in Massachusetts.
