LSU AD Joe Alleva responds to Tigers being fined $100,000 by the SEC for fans rushing the field
LSU fans took the party from the bleachers to the field following the Tigers’ huge win against then-No. 2 Georgia last Saturday, a move that cost the university $100,000 in the form of a fine from the SEC.
Tigers athletic director Joe Alleva, who surely anticipated the penalty, was quick to issue a statement in response.
Statement from #LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva:
"While Saturday’s win was a moment for the LSU family to remember, on-field celebrations can be unsafe. We share the conference’s concerns for the safety of fans and the security of players and staff."

Fans began spilling onto the field as the final seconds of LSU’s resounding 36-16 victory ticked away. It was the second time in recent years that the Tigers have gotten to celebrate with fans on the field after a win — LSU’s first violation of the SEC policy came following a win against Ole Miss in 2014.
Alleva is likely unhappy about his athletic department having to fork over such a huge amount of money, but the Tigers’ win could be a net gain in the long run if they can somehow run the table and reach the SEC championship game.
