As a freshman, Eyanson pitched in 8 games, posting a 2-1 record. Though he was a 7-time starter, Eyanson logged just 29 innings in 2023. He had encouraging numbers as a freshman, with an ERA of 4.34 and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 34-8 over 124 batters faced.
Eyanson stepped into a larger role in 2024. He made 14 appearances, including 9 starts. Eyanson’s UC San Diego bio notes that he took over as the team’s Friday night starter midway through the season.
As a sophomore, Eyanson logged 82 innings. He showed he can go the distance with a complete game in UC San Diego’s 4-1 win over Cal Poly on May 17.
LSU fans can be excited that Eyanson showed notable improvement in multiple statistical categories with an increased workload. Eyanson’s ERA was down to 3.07 in 2024. His batters faced more than doubled from 322 to 124, but the number of hits allowed only went from 29 to 55. Opponents’ batting average went down from .257 to .190 over Eyanson’s two seasons.
The LSU staff may work with Eyanson a bit on walks. While facing roughly 2.5 times more batters, his free passes tripled from 8 to 24 year-over-year. Eyanson’s strikeout numbers translated more directly from 34 to 85.
Eyanson made the All-Big West Second Team for the 2024 season. He was also a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team- International Friendship Series roster this year.
