New LSU head coach Lane Kiffin has been hard at work over the past few weeks assembling his new staff in Baton Rouge as he prepares to tackle his first transfer portal window and spring practice with the Tigers.
Kiffin brought much of his offensive staff from Ole Miss with him when he took over the Bayou Bengals, but a significant portion of his defensive staff with the Rebels elected to stay in Oxford under newly promoted head coach Pete Golding.
This means that Kiffin has been on the hunt for new coaches to head up his defense at LSU, and he just made another big hire by bringing on South Carolina defensive line coach Sterling Lucas to fill the same role with the Tigers.
A former standout pass rusher at NC State, Lucas will bring over a decade of coaching experience with him to Baton Rouge, a resume that includes stints at both the NFL and SEC levels.
He’s spent the past 5 seasons as a member of the Gamecocks staff as the team’s defensive ends coach and run defense coordinator under head coach Shane Beamer, and he’ll now be tasked with revamping the Tigers’ defensive line as the newest member of Kiffin’s staff.
