LSU football may not be participating in the College Football Playoff, but there are few teams that are being talked about more across the country than the Tigers. With Lane Kiffin as the new coach, the excitement level in Baton Rouge is sky high.

The next few weeks are going to be extremely important for LSU‘s future, as the NCAA transfer portal officially opens up on Friday.

For Kiffin, keeping players will be as important as bringing in new talent. On Thursday, the Tigers got good news as key members of one of the best secondaries in all of college football announced they were staying.

Michael Turner, Ja’Keem Jackson, Aidan Anding, PJ Woodland and DJ Pickett all announced they would be returning to LSU.

Woodland was one of the better players for the Tigers last year, as he finished with 38 tackles and two interceptions. Pickett was tied for the team lead with three interceptions, while finishing with 35 tackles.

Turner, Jackson and Anding played in smaller roles, but all three have the potential to be major players moving forward in their career.

The Tigers defense this season was a pleasant surprise. If they are able to play at that level next season with an offense that figures to be improved under Kiffin, then the Tigers could be contending sooner rather than later.
