It might feel like everyone is leaving LSU with the recent coaching departures and NFL Draft declarations, but the Tigers got some good news that a key assistant is staying in Baton Rouge. Multiple outlets have reported that wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph turned down an opportunity at Nebraska.
Joseph, a Nebraska alumnus, was hired by coach Ed Orgeron ahead of the 2017 season after coaching at Louisiana Tech. The Marrero, Louisiana native and Archbishop Shaw product was brought in by Orgeron to strengthen the staff’s ties to the New Orleans recruiting scene. This season, Jefferson’s unit had the No. 1 and No. 3 pass-catchers in receiving yards nationally. Biletnikoff Award-winning sophomore Ja’Marr Chase led the nation with 1,780 receiving yards while junior Justin Jefferson logged 1,540 receiving yards. Jefferson’s 111 receptions tied for first in the nation with SMU’s James Proche. Chase and Jefferson were also first and second in the nation in touchdown catches with 20 and 18, respectively.
The news of Joseph turning down Nebraska comes on the same day the Huskers have parted with offensive coordinator Troy Walters, who followed coach Scott Frost from UCF.
