LSU is ready to hire Louisiana native Lance Guidry to be a part of its defensive staff in 2025, sources told Matt Zenitz of 247Sports on Tuesday night.

Guidry was the defensive coordinator at Miami in 2023 and 2024 before being fired at the end of last season. It appears that LSU will scoop up the 53-year-old who was born in Welsh, Louisiana, to coach in some capacity under defensive coordinator Blake Baker.

The last straw for Guidry at Miami was the Hurricanes’ 42-41 loss to Iowa State in the Pop Tarts Bowl. Just a few days later, Guidry was let go, and now it looks like LSU will bring Guidry back to his home state to be a part of the Tigers defensive staff.

The Miami defense ranked 68th in the country in 2024, allowing just over 25 points per game. But against Power 4 opponents, the numbers were worse, as the Hurricanes allowed about 31 points per contest.

Guidry earned the DC opportunity at Miami after he led a Marshall defense that ranked among the top 10 in the country in 2022. Guidry was also at Marshall in 2021 after he spent the 2020 season as an assistant at Florida Atlantic.

Guidry’s 1 and only head coaching job came at McNeese State from 2016-18.
