Without a doubt, LSU senior kicker Colby Delahoussaye is lucky to have survived the July 23 car accident that claimed the lives of former Michigan State punter Mike Sadler and Nebraska punter Sam Foltz.

Remarkably, Delahoussaye not only survived, he sustained only minor injuries and claims he will be back to ‘100% in a very short amount of time’ following the accident. Tuesday evening, the senior kicker released his first public statements following the tragedy:

According to Delahoussaye’s father, the LSU player was awoken by fire slightly burning his legs in the aftermath of the wreck. The sensation awoke him enough to exit the vehicle, which ultimately saved his life.
