LSU’s upset bid against Tennessee just got a lot more difficult. The Tigers will be without PG Tremont Waters, the team’s leading scorer.
Waters is sidelined with an undisclosed illness, according to NOLA.com’s Amie Just. It is the first game he’ll be missing in his two years with the team.
The timing for an absence is certainly rough. LSU has a chance to reclaim a portion of the lead in the SEC. The No. 13 Tigers are 11-2 in the conference while No. 5 UT is 12-1. Will Wade’s squad was tied for first entering the week, but fell Wednesday night at home to Florida in overtime.
Waters is averaging 15.7 points per game in 26 appearances this season, including 24 starts. The 43.2 percent shooter logs an average of 32.6 minutes per game.
Tipoff for Saturday’s showdown is set for noon ET/11 a.m. CT on ESPN.
