LSU had an up-and-down season during the 2024 college football season, as the Tigers finished 8-4 on the season. The Tigers had big wins this season against South Carolina and Ole Miss, while also finishing 5-3 in the SEC.

The Tigers weren’t in the hunt for a spot in the College Football Playoff, but they did qualify for a matchup against former defensive coordinator Dave Aranda and his Baylor Bears in the Texas Bowl.

Aranda became the coach at Baylor in 2020, but before that, was the defensive coordinator and associate head coach at LSU from 2016-2019. He was on the staff when LSU won the title with Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Mar Chase.

The Tigers had to replace the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels this season, and quarterback Garrett Nussmeier had his moments. He finished with 3,739 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. At times, he was too careless with the ball, and turned it over in key moments.

Coach Brian Kelly has been extremely positive when looking towards the future, and this game against Baylor could be a big springboard. Nussmeier figures to be back next year, and Kelly has said he doesn’t see the team losing a lot of guys in the portal.

The Texas Bowl gives LSU an opportunity to end the season on a positive note, and carry a lot of momentum into the 2025 season. The matchup against Baylor is on New Year’s Eve and will kickoff from NRG Stadium at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
