LSU is gearing up for a huge season under coach Brian Kelly, as the Tigers are looking to make it back to the College Football Playoff.

The Tigers are getting a lot of preseason hype, in large part because of what figures to be one of the most explosive offenses in the country. LSU possesses elite speed at the receiver position, and arguably the best quarterback in the country in Garrett Nussmeier.

Last season, Nussmeier threw for 4,052 yards and 29 touchdowns, and enters this year as a favorite to win the Heisman Trophy. However, after his year in 2024, he did have some thoughts about moving on to the NFL.

However, he decided to come back — thanks (at least in part) due to some convincing from LSU linebacker Whit Weeks.

“The thought of losing Nuss … if we lost Nuss, you’re not only losing your quarterback, you’re losing your leader,” Weeks said. “I just told him, I was like, ‘Dude, if you come back, we’re winning the natty. There is no doubt in my mind, next year is LSU’s year.”

Weeks delivered that message on Netflix’s new SEC documentary, which will be released this week:

Bringing Nussmeier back instantly put LSU back as a contender, and the Tigers will get tested very quickly as they hit the road to take on Clemson in Week 1. The season opener has been a huge issue for LSU recently, as the Tigers have lost 5 consecutive season opening games under Kelly.
