LSU is working on a top-10 recruiting class under head coach Brian Kelly, but the Tigers lost one of their 4-star commitments Friday evening.

The player is Maurice Williams Jr., a 4-star defender out of Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, Texas. In the process of announcing his decommitment, Williams revealed he is committing to Houston.

“I am writing to inform you that I have decided to decommit from Louisiana State University,” Williams included in a note on social media. “After careful consideration, I have realized that LSU is not the best fit for me at this time. I want to express my sincere appreciation for the time and effort that the LSU coaching staff and admissions team have spent recruiting me. I have the utmost respect for the university and the program, but I have come to the conclusion that it is in my best interest to stay home and play at the University of Houston.”

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, the 247 Sports Composite rates Williams as a 4-star recruit and the No. 8 LB in the country for the class of 2024. He’s also rated the 110th player in the country and was LSU’s second-highest-ranked commitment as things currently stand.
