LSU defeated Wisconsin in the ReliaQuest Bowl thanks a game-winning 98-yard drive late in the 4th quarter on Monday.
The Tigers found the end zone with just over 3 minutes remaining to take a 35-31 lead over the Badgers. They stopped Wisconsin on the ensuing drive to secure the win.
According to LSU general content manager Todd Politz, this was the Tigers’ first 4th quarter game-winning drive of 98+ yards since Nov. 29, 2013. LSU defeated Arkansas in that game to close out the 2013 regular season. It’s only LSU’s second game-winning drive of 98+ yards in the 4th quarter since at least 1942.

Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier led the way on LSU’s game-winning drive. He finished it off with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr., which was Nussmeier’s 3rd of the day.
Nussmeier had completions of 37 yards and 43 yards on the drive. Those two big gains happened on back-to-back plays and helped put the Tigers in position to take the lead late in the contest.
Overall, Nussmeier finished with 395 yards in the win as he helped LSU overcome a double-digit deficit on multiple occasions vs. Wisconsin.
LSU finishes the 2023 season with a 10-3 record and will be looking to take another step forward under Brian Kelly in 2024.
